i rarely take naps. this weekend i took two. why? because last week was filled with 4am's, bands, drinks and little sleep. nevertheless, i dragged myself to the delancey friday night even though my body begged me to stay in, place cucumbers over my eyes and act my age.
i was there to see pela, however when i ran in to my friend greg on the street on my walk over, he told me that "norah jones' punk band" was playing after them. so my bed time just went from 11pm to 12am, because there was no way i was missing that. (actual bed time friday night: 4am)
pela was good. i don't like detailing sound here, but they were pretty solid - nothing mind blowing. the singer was energetic and emotional and they were quite enjoyable to listen to for a bit. you can read about no jo's band, el mad mo, here. they were incredibly un-punk but way better than the grammy winners usual stuff. and since pretty much every blogger was out to see pela, and they played right after pela...every blogger blogged about them...and as a result they took most of their website down, including links to music.
saturday i headed over to mercury lounge around 10pm to hang out with the ghostland boys before they took the stage at midnight. and when they did take the stage...the room was packed! sweaty, dancey and totally awesome. eventually i became too tired, sat down on the side of the stage, took some pictures and wondered how GLO got to be that awesome. next thing i knew it was about 3am and i was leaving an almost empty venue. aaron and thomas were off to procure some steak and eggs and i was off to reunite with my bed.
of course, how can anyone sleep when this song is stuck in their head?:

ps: you're probably going to want to buy tickets ahead of time for the tuesday show.
my first time catching ghostland live...and wow! what a wild and fun show; never seen a dancier merc lounge crowd. i've got some pics here: http://indie-licious.blog.com/746551/
