i understand you completely. journey lives in my hometown in novato, ca. and they played a free show there on october 1st. of course they couldn't have played there during the 18 years i lived there!

I checked with the Office of Scenester Policies and they said that it's okay to go to the Journey concert, with the following caveats:
(A)Your intention is ironic.
(B)You get plenty of good chuckles at the expense of the those concert-goers sincerly enjoying the music. (ALA the videotape of the Khaki Seaport CYHSY fan. OMG THAT WAS THE FUNNIEST THING EVER!!!!!)
(C)You occasionally pump your fist to the music with an ostensibly ironic but subconsciously sincere ferocity.

Thanks for checking whether it's okay to like Journey! It's important to carefully consider any mainstream band's fashion cache before determining whether or not you like their music!
After all, you don't want to get caught with your pants down unironically enjoying a band such as Coldplay or - perish the thought - DMB.

um, i wasn't ACTUALLY asking if it was okay to go. that was sort of a rhetorical question. i would love to go, UNironically.

Don't Stop Believing. There is nothing wrong with liking Journey. "She took a midnight train going anywhere?" Fantastic.

But the Journey that's touring features some replacement lead singer. There's probably a better Journey cover band out there, somewhere, that won't charge you $40 (or $148.50?! at the Beacon Theatre) a ticket.
