londonist, the -ist across the pond, reports on time out londons "best london gig ever" list - which goes as follows:
1. The Clash - Rainbow Theatre - May 9, 1977
2. Brian Wilson - Royal Festival Hall - February 20, 2004
3. Stevie Wonder - Rainbow Theatre - February 24, 1974
4. Rolling Stones - The Crawdaddy Club, Richmond - April 28, 1963
5. Duke Ellington - London Palladium - June 12, 1933
6. N*E*R*D with Justin Timberlake - Brixton Academy - November 9, 2003
7. Bob Marley - Lyceum Ballroom - July 17, 1975
8. The Smiths - Jubilee Gardens - June 10, 1984
9. White Stripes - Camden Dingwalls - July 30, 2001
10. The Beatles - The Pigalle, Piccadilly - April 21, 1963
N.E.R.D and justin timberlake beat out the beatles?! this is why i don't like lists. i'd also like to state that in 1764 mozart performed for king george III (the crazy one, also know as the "king who lost america") in london. surely he was no timberlake, but i'm betting that was a pretty good performance none-the-less. of course no one at time out london was alive then to see it and thus able to group it in with this list, however i'm also betting that no one at time out london was at the duke ellington show in 1933, which placed 5th.
also, why wasn't queen included?
i think the list would have been better had it been a seperate top 10 list for each decade.
Seems about right to me. At least number 1...
