so says i
it's amazing how the shins made garden state a more enjoyable movie, yet how garden state made the shins a less enjoyable live show.
as per my past experiences with webster hall, the band was good - the audience was not. lots of little teenagers squeezing through the cracks trying to get as close as possible - pushing, stepping on toes, talking about that band that was on the oc last week, waiting with baited breath for their life...to...be...changed. i hope it worked out for them, i left after five songs and decided to reserve the shins for my sunday mornings and ipod.
on saturday night i went to southpaw to see damien jurado, but luckily catherine mentioned that we had to catch the opener - two gallants. and i loved their set! why had i not seen them live before?
there are only two guys in the band, singer/guitar and drummer. i won't make any white stripes comparisons. but if i had to i'd say the singer is a bit like a folkie kurt cobain and janis joplin hybrid (with a bit of the conor oberst rattley voice)...and the drummer is like animal from the muppets.
listen to nothing to you.mp3 by two gallants. it will change your life.
Who would have thought that a band that is featured prominently on hipster blogs and plays at webster could be anything other than life changing!?
Finally someone with the balls to admit that every sold out show at Webster Hall and Bowery isn't "Best Show EVER!"

I am a teenager, and I went to a shins show, but I haven't even seen garden state, I am a shins fan at heart
