i just interviewed lou barlow (via the internets). his answers, which were some of the best i've heard, made me realize something. singer-songwriter types and more experienced musicians give great answers, they like to tell a story. whereas brooklyn hipster bands only try to be clever and brief in their answers, disinterested on the outside but pleasewriteaboutmyband on the inside. i'm just getting tired of the pretension. anyway, i totally love lou barlow and have in his many incarnations (dinosaur jr, sebadoh, folk implosion) - needless to say i'm psyched to see him next week at merc. you can still buy tickets here. i caught him at the merge showcase at cmj last year with scott. we sat on the stage steps and listened to his simplisitic lo-fi set just before the arcade fire went on. that night was the highlight of cmj for me - actually it was probably the highlight of all of the shows i went to last year.
i'll post lou's interview next week in the gothamist band interview (which used to be called sets & the city.)
also, his new cd emoh is available here. here's a sample: caterpillar girl.mp3
